KAOS RADIO PARTNERS WITH COMMUNITY FOUNDATION TO HOST A GIVE LOCAL PLEDGE DAY
by Tim Sweeney

KAOS Community Radio (89.3 FM Olympia) will hold a one-day Fall pledge drive on Tuesday, November 10 to encourage listeners to participate in this year’s Give Local campaign hosted by the Community Foundation of South Puget Sound.

Since 2017, the Community Foundation has invited nonprofits and fiscally sponsored groups based in Lewis, Mason, and Thurston counties to register. Last year, the campaign raised over $1.6 million in donations spread among 154 participating nonprofits, including KAOS Radio.

This year’s campaign runs from November 9 - 20 at spsgives.org. KAOS’ one-day pledge drive will not only encourage support for the commercial-free station but also for other nonprofits participating in Give Local.

While KAOS receives most of its operating support from The Evergreen State College and its students, the station also seeks donations from listeners and businesses to support its operations. This year, in the collective spirit of the Give Local campaign, station staff and volunteers decided to combine its Fall pledge drive with Give Local and to invite other participating nonprofits to join them in appealing to their listeners through pre-recorded messages and in-studio appearances during the day.

“Many of our volunteer radio show hosts are active members of our listenership community and support many of the nonprofits involved in the campaign. This year, instead of just asking for support for our station, we liked the idea of sharing our platform with other interested nonprofits,” said Jonny Hamilton, KAOS station manager.

KAOS has invited nonprofits participating in this year’s Give Local to contact KAOS to discover ways they can include their appeal for funding in the Give Local Pledge Day.  KAOS staff also would like to help interested nonprofits create a public service announcement (PSA). Request a public service announcement.

“KAOS Radio’s idea to share their pledge drive with fellow Give Local participants is community collaboration at its best. By offering airtime and PSA production to regional nonprofits, they are helping make sure every featured cause has a chance to shine,” shared Mary Lam-Witcher, the Community Foundation Philanthropy & Communications Officer.

The one-day Fall pledge drive will start at 7:30 a.m. and go till 7:30 p.m. on November 10. But supporters can become KAOS listener supporters any time through its website at www.kaosradio.org.
