KAOS would like to help get the word out about any nonprofit organization serving the community within our broadcast range by producing and airing Public Service Announcements (PSA) on the station. The KAOS broadcast range reaches all of Thurston County and parts of Pierce, Mason and Lewis counties. Nonprofit organizations are eligible to have a General PSA run to inform listeners about their mission, and a limited number of Event PSAs run for major events throughout the year.

Please fill out the form below to get started with our Production team, whether your nonprofit already has a pre-recorded 30 or 60 second PSA, or you would like KAOS staff to help create one. We will follow up with a draft script or edits. Our staff can produce and voice PSAs, or arrange for a spokesperson from your organization to come into the KAOS studios and be the voice of your nonprofit. Please submit your PSA Request at least two months in advance of your desired air date.

All PSAs aired on KAOS must meet federal and local rules. KAOS holds final editorial approval and reserves the right to decline any PSA request. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) have strict guidelines for airing PSAs. Please keep these guidelines in mind when you submit your announcement:

  1. PSAs cannot be accepted for for-profit organizations or commercial purposes. If it involves money or measurable benefit, the recipient must have 501(c)(3) status. KAOS cannot accept announcements for fundraisers at commercial establishments, even if a portion of the funds are donated.

  2. Wording must be objective and value neutral. We cannot promote events, we can only inform the public. Announcements cannot contain comparative or qualitative language. No wording that suggests superior service or refers to the quality of a service: no “best, biggest, most popular…” or “this location only.”

  3. Announcements cannot contain calls to action. We cannot command anyone to do anything. You cannot tell people to come to your event, call this number, or visit your website. You can tell them when and where the event is, or tell them where they can access more information. “More information available at www…. or 360-…”

  4. Announcements cannot reference price or value, and may not include an inducement to buy, sell, rent, or lease. You cannot reference ticket prices even if it’s free. Free events can be described as “open to the public.” You may tell listeners where tickets are available.
