Current Volunteer Opportunities

Printed Volunteer Applications can be picked up and returned to the station in CAB 101 at The Evergreen State College.

On-Air DJ: KAOS is looking for live DJs to host regular programs and act as fill-in hosts for current shows. Areas on our program schedule that say “KAOS Mix” are open slots. You must first complete a DJ Training, pass a certification exam, and create a show proposal & air check.
Email kaos@evergreen.edu and ask to be notified when our next DJ Training is scheduled.

Front Desk Duties: Be the face of KAOS to visitors and hosts as they come in to the station. Answer phones, provide tours, help out with our community calendar and billboard, and help with various office tasks. Email kaos@evergreen.edu to get involved.

Music Department: The Music Department has several volunteer opportunities. Email kaosmusicdirector@gmail.com to get involved.

Sound Engineering: Experienced sound engineers and advanced audio students alike can get hands on experience in our performance studio running and live mixing audio for our in-studio sessions.

Specialty Genre Directors: Love a specific genre of music and want to listen to the latest releases before they come out? KAOS reports to the NACC Chart, which has the following Genre charts: Electronic, Heavy (Loud Rock/Metal), Hip Hop, R&B/Soul, Chill, Jazz, Latin, Blues, Folk & World. Genre Directors process submissions every week, report charts to NACC, and help maintain relationships with radio promoters.

Music Library: Help keep our CD Library, Vinyl Vault, and Cassette Library well organized and labeled. Our Library Aides have undertaken a huge reorganization project and will train volunteers to assist.

FCC Screening: We are building a Digital Library, and you can help us expand it by screening albums in our physical library for FCC violations so we can digitize them. Yes, you can volunteer to listen to music!

Music Reviews: Are you a writer? We collect new music reviews and concert reviews for our blog.

Announcements: Lend your audio design or voiceover skills to our production team by helping create up-to-date PSAs, promos, and liners.

Local News: KAOS seeks locally produced public affairs programming. Want to report on Olympia, WA and the South Puget Sound? Complete our DJ Training, pass a certification exam, and create a show proposal & air check. Already have a local podcast you want broadcast on the airwaves? Get in touch!

Community Events Calendar: Our Event Calendar is maintained by volunteers. Are you on the pulse of what’s happening in town? Help out our web team!

Web and Social Media: Help us with social media content creation. Like making art or graphic design? You can help us create promotional materials for KAOS shows and events.

Communication: Design and distribute flyers, brochures, and zines, or help generate our regular newsletter.

Events: Help with setup/breakdown of KAOS Sponsored Events and assist with event planning.

Tabling: Talk with community members at local events.

Membership Drives: Volunteer to answer phones, take pledges, package member swag, stuff envelopes, or even pitch live on air!

Fundraising Research: Do you have grant writing or grant research experience? Put it to use at KAOS.
